MORE THAN 20 FLEVOLAND PARTIES TODAY SIGNED A DECLARATION OF INTENT TO WORK TOGETHER TO DEVELOP THE HYDROGEN ECONOMY. WITH THIS DECLARATION, THE PARTIES WANT TO SET TO WORK TO DEPLOY HYDROGEN AS A MEANS TO FURTHER THE ENERGY TRANSITION IN FLEVOLAND. SIGNATORIES INCLUDE KNOWLEDGE INSTITUTIONS SUCH AS WAGENINGEN UNIVERSITY AND RESEARCH AND MARKET PARTIES SUCH AS GIGASTORAGE AND ENGIE. On Thursday, November 3, during a kick-off lunch event at Lelystad Airport, the parties together put the Flevoland hydrogen economy on the runway. This is the first step following the signing of the MOU to get the initiative flying.
At the same time, all signatories also invite other parties to join the shared ambitions. These can contact Arjan de Bruin of Horizon (arjan@horizonflevoland.nl). There will soon be a lunch meeting at Lelystad Airport where the parties can share their ideas and initiatives.
AMBITIES
With the signed declaration, the parties indicate their intention to give the development of the hydrogen economy a big push forward in the coming years. Hydrogen can contribute as an energy carrier to the solution for the congested power grid. It can serve as a replacement for fossil fuel, for example at the Maxima power plant in Lelystad, which currently runs on natural gas. Transportation by road, water and air can also use hydrogen to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. The parties will work on the generation of (green) hydrogen and its use. In addition, the hydrogen economy can also strengthen the regional economy by creating jobs in the energy sector.
