OPENING SOUTHERN ACCESS ROAD
THE SOUTHERN ACCESS ROAD PROJECT WAS COMPLETED AT THE BEGINNING OF FEBRUARY. OMALA N.V. (AS AREA DEVELOPER OF LELYSTAD AIRPORT BUSINESS PARK) DESIGNED THIS INFRASTRUCTURAL WORK IN COOPERATION WITH THE MUNICIPALITY OF LELYSTAD, LOCAL RESIDENTS AND MAIN CONTRACTOR KWS. DURING THIS PROJECT, THE FORMER MEERKOETENWEG WAS WIDENED FROM 3.70 METERS TO 6.50 METERS IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC AND MAKE BUSINESSES MORE ACCESSIBLE. IN ADDITION, THE SECOND PHASE OF THE OCHOAWEG WAS CONSTRUCTED. AS A RESULT, THE BUSINESS PARK AND THE MEERKOETENWEG, ARE OPTIMALLY CONNECTED VIA THE ANTHONY FOKKERWEG (N727) AND THE FREEWAY (A6).
SOUTHERN ACCESS ROAD PROJECT
The purpose of the Southern Access Road was to upgrade Meerkoetenweg and create a permanent layout, as well as to provide good access to the business park. This will make it easier for traffic to flow to Ochoaweg and on toward the N302. The biggest changes are the widening of Meerkoetenweg and the diversion to and through the business park. One request from immediate residents was that the remaining portion of Meerkoetenweg not be closed. This could be granted. This will allow destination traffic and agricultural vehicles to continue to travel along a portion of Meerkoetenweg.
THE DESIGN
The project to upgrade Meerkoetenweg and provide access to the business park arose from consultation with the surrounding area. Lelystad Municipality then developed and adopted a design, including consideration of aspects such as traffic safety and traffic flow.
